Freeport Mosquito Control Spraying Four Mile Rd, Steamboat Landing and Kaleidoscope Areas Tonight

Freeport Mosquito Control will run a two-hour spray mission through the Four Mile Rd, Steamboat Landing and Kaleidoscope areas tonight between 5 and 7 PM — the city’s first truck route of November.

The city announced the route on its official Facebook page Tuesday afternoon, in a post that points to the waters the recent hurricane left behind as it sends crews back out. Hurricane Isaias crossed Walton County in late October, and recovery work is still close enough to home that FEMA application help is on hand at Freeport City Hall.

Tonight’s window is a tight early-evening pass, closer to the one-hour route the city ran through the Kaleidoscope and Steamboat Landing areas on Oct. 26 than to the overnight missions that closed out October, when trucks worked until 11:30 PM across Bay Loop, Hammock Bay and Hwy 20 West and from North Jackson St toward Marquis Way, Riverwalk, Old Jolly Bay, Hwy 20 East and The Bluffs. Four Mile Rd rounds out tonight’s route alongside the two neighborhoods the city last treated a week ago.

The rotation dates to late May, when Freeport launched its weekly spray announcements, and crews have held a steady cadence since — including a July route that started on North Jackson Street — with the city posting each mission’s areas and hours to its Facebook page as soon as they are set.

As with any treatment, the usual precautions apply: close windows, bring pet food and water bowls inside, and stay indoors while the truck works the streets. Residents with questions can contact the city’s main line at (850) 835-2822.
