Walton County Technical Review Committee to Meet November 4 at Freeport Board Room
The Walton County Technical Review Committee will hold its next regular meeting on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the Freeport Board Room at 842 State Highway 20 East. The session brings the county’s first technical checkpoint for new development projects to Freeport, with eight agenda items on deck.
The Technical Review Committee, established by Ordinance 91-04 under Walton County’s Land Development Code, provides the initial review of technical details on a project after it is submitted. Members examine the plans, submit their comments or concerns for discussion at the meeting, and then vote on whether a project is ready to move forward to the next step in the approval pipeline or needs substantial changes and a return trip for re-review.
The November 4 agenda opens with approval of the September 2 and September 16 meeting minutes. Four projects are slated for continuance: the Thomas Abandonment, a right-of-way abandonment along Winfield Street in District 1; Gulf Coast Bank’s proposed 7,433-square-foot bank on the north side of US Highway 98 West in District 4; the 470 Lakewood Drive parcel division, a two-lot subdivision in District 5; and the Moll Drive veterinary clinic, a 4,800-square-foot animal hospital planned for the southwest corner of US Highway 98 West and Moll Drive. The first three roll to the November 18 TRC meeting, while the clinic continues to December 2.
Three projects are up for approval by development order. Ace Home Helpers seeks the go-ahead for additional impervious area around its existing garden center at 2202 US Highway 98 West, and The Shoppes @ Inlet Phase 2 would add 6,377 square feet of restaurant space and 13,533 square feet of retail at 13667 US Highway 98 East. The largest item is Pinnacle Park Infrastructure, a 32.7-acre package of roadways, stormwater, utility, landscaping, and recreation work for a mixed-use development east of Veterans Road.
The Freeport Board Room, located in the Freeport Commons complex on State Highway 20 East, hosts a rotating schedule of county board and commission meetings, giving residents in the eastern half of Walton County a place to watch development reviews without driving to DeFuniak Springs. The November 4 session is open to the public, and the county streams its TRC meetings live on its YouTube channel. Agenda packets are posted in advance through the Walton County CivicWeb portal, where residents can also track each project as it moves toward the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners.
