Freeport Mosquito Control Spraying Kaleidoscope and Steamboat Landing Areas Tonight
Freeport Mosquito Control will conduct a small spray mission in the Kaleidoscope and Steamboat Landing areas tonight between 6 and 7 PM, taking advantage of the early sunset to go after mosquitoes the city says are “still out and hungry.”
The city announced the one-hour window on its official Facebook page Monday afternoon. It is a tighter operation than the overnight routes Freeport ran earlier in October, when spray trucks worked from 6:15 PM to 11:30 PM through the North Jackson Street area, past the elementary school and toward the Publix-area neighborhoods, Riverwalk and Marquis Way, with the Bay Loop and Hammock Bay areas treated earlier in the month.
The treatment is the city’s latest answer to a fall mosquito population that has refused to fold. Freeport’s crews have worked a steady rotation since summer, including a late-July mission across the Bay Loop and Hammock Bay areas and a July route that started on North Jackson Street.
As with any treatment, the usual precautions apply: close windows, bring pet food and water bowls inside, and stay indoors while the truck works the streets. Residents were already asking in the comments when their own streets would get a pass, and the city’s main line, (850) 835-2822, is listed for residents with questions.
