Freeport Schedules Public Meetings on Proposed Safety Action Plan
Freeport residents get their chance to shape a proposed Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for the city’s sidewalks, paths and street crossings at a public outreach meeting Wednesday, October 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at 112 Highway 20 West.
The plan grew out of a “Safe Routes 4 All” grant the City of Freeport applied for and received from the Florida Department of Transportation to develop safety recommendations for multimodal facilities inside the city. The document addresses multimodal paths, sidewalks, crosswalks, intersection improvements and lighting, along with the existing network, the connections between its pieces and the new facilities the city still needs. City staff and the city’s consulting engineering firm, Anchor CEI, will facilitate the outreach session to gather input from the public.
Wednesday’s meeting is the first of three public steps the proposal must clear. The Freeport Planning Board reviews the plan at its regular meeting Wednesday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. and makes recommendations to the Freeport City Council. The Council then takes the plan up at its regular meeting Tuesday, November 10 at 9:00 a.m., hearing the board’s recommendations and considering a resolution to adopt and implement the proposed Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. Both sessions are also set for the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Meeting materials are posted on the city website at freeportflorida.gov and can be inspected by the public at the Planning & Zoning Office, 16040 Highway 331 Business, during regular business hours. Comments may be made orally at the meeting or submitted in writing on or before the meeting date.
Under Section 286.26, Florida Statutes, residents with disabilities who need special accommodations to participate can contact the City Clerk’s office at 850-835-2822 by 5:00 p.m. on the day before the meeting.
