FEMA Application Help Available at Freeport City Hall

Freeport residents who want help applying for federal disaster aid can now get it in person at City Hall. FEMA representatives are staffing a registration point in the City Council Chambers at 112 FL-20, one of three Community Resource Registration Points Walton County opened Saturday for Hurricane Isaias survivors.

The registration points opened Saturday, October 31, and are available from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Walton County Emergency Management announced. FEMA personnel will be on-site to assist residents with the disaster assistance application process. Alongside the Freeport City Hall site, the county is staffing Paxton City Hall at 21872 US-331 and the DeFuniak Springs Walmart at 1226 US-331.

The walk-up help builds on the Individual Assistance approval Freeport households had been waiting on since the storm. The approval, announced October 29, opened federal help with essential needs and disaster-related expenses to eligible individuals and households. Until now residents applied by calling 1-800-621-3362, visiting DisasterAssistance.gov or using the FEMA app — the registration points add a person in the room for anyone who wants one while working through the paperwork.

Hurricane Isaias swept the Panhandle from Oct. 6 through 12, leaving Freeport with power outages and light damage, and the recovery has run on several fronts since. The countywide storm debris pickup is still working through Freeport neighborhoods as the federal aid programs come online. Walton County Emergency Management said it will continue sharing updates as additional recovery resources become available.
