Freeport Seniors Eligible for $1,000 Communications Scholarships
Freeport high school seniors with an eye on a career in media have a regional scholarship to pursue: the Emerald Coast Public Relations Foundation is offering several $1,000 awards to graduating seniors across Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa counties, with applications due March 15, 2027.
The scholarships are intended for students who plan to pursue a college degree in public relations, communication, marketing or journalism, according to the organization. To be eligible, applicants must be high school seniors living in the three-county area with a GPA of 3.75 or higher — a bar that puts Freeport seniors in the same applicant pool as students from every high school in the neighboring counties.
The application is writing-heavy by design. It asks for a brief essay on an ethical issue in public relations or journalism, paired with a summary of the applicant’s leadership or community service experience. Applications and additional information are available at high school guidance counselors’ offices or on the foundation’s website, ecpro.org.
The foundation says it has previously awarded the scholarships to students from numerous high schools across the region, with 2026 recipients including students from Fort Walton Beach, Collegiate and Niceville high schools. The March 15, 2027 deadline leaves the winter months for essays and applications — a runway long enough for a Freeport senior to put together a submission that stands out across the three-county field.
