Freeport Jam — November 1 at the Community Center

The City of Freeport is calling all pickers and players: the Freeport Jam returns Sunday, November 1, from 2 to 4 PM at the Freeport Community Center behind City Hall. The city announced the fall session Tuesday morning, inviting musicians to bring their acoustic instruments for an afternoon of bluegrass, country, gospel, and rock.

The Freeport Jam is a casual music circle the city hosts at the Community Center, 124 Highway 20 West, behind Freeport City Hall. The flyer’s invitation is plain: “Calling All Pickers & Players!” — anyone with an acoustic instrument is welcome to pull up a chair and join in, trading songs across the four genres on the bill.

The house rules are printed just as plainly: no alcohol, no shenanigans. And no instrument is required to attend — the city says an audience is welcome to come clap and sing along, making the jam as much a Sunday-afternoon social as a picking session.

The November 1 session carries the series into the fall. The city launched the Freeport Jam this summer, with sessions in June and again at the start of August drawing residents to the same hall for afternoons of music and fellowship.

Residents who want details — or a heads-up before each jam — can be placed on the “Freeport Jam” notification list by emailing Latilda Hughes-Neel at [email protected]. The city posts updates on its Facebook page as each session approaches.
