Freeport Mosquito Control Spraying North Jackson St, Publix Area and Riverwalk Tonight

Freeport Mosquito Control will run a five-and-a-half-hour spray mission tonight through the North Jackson St, Publix area, Riverwalk, Old Jolly Bay, Hwy 20 East, The Bluffs, Owls Head and Business 331 areas, with trucks out from 5 PM until 10:30 PM.

The city announced the route on its official Facebook page Thursday afternoon — the third consecutive evening mission this week, and another response to the mosquito activity that has stayed elevated since Hurricane Isaias crossed Walton County in late October, when the standing water the storm left behind kept the pests active.

Tonight’s route reprises the overnight pattern Freeport ran on Oct. 29, when trucks started on North Jackson St and worked toward Marquis Way, Riverwalk, Old Jolly Bay, Hwy 20 East and The Bluffs — this time adding the Publix area, Owls Head and the Business 331 corridor to the list. A July route through the same eastern neighborhoods finished along Business 331 after covering The Bluffs and Owls Head.

It follows Tuesday’s two-hour pass through the Four Mile Rd, Steamboat Landing and Kaleidoscope areas and Wednesday’s makeup mission across Hammock Bay, Bay Loop and Hwy 20 West, which ran until 10:30 PM. Freeport has held the weekly cadence since launching the rotating spray announcements in late May, with the city posting each mission’s areas and hours as soon as they are set. Recovery work continues around Freeport, and FEMA application help is on hand at Freeport City Hall.

As with any treatment, the usual precautions apply: close windows, bring pet food and water bowls inside, and stay indoors while the truck works the streets. Residents with questions can contact the city’s main line at (850) 835-2822.
