Freeport Mosquito Control Spraying Hammock Bay, Bay Loop and Hwy 20 West Tonight
Freeport Mosquito Control will be back out tonight spraying the Hammock Bay and Bay Loop areas that weren’t reached in last night’s route, along with a pass down Hwy 20 West. Trucks will run from 5 PM until 10:30 PM.
The city announced the makeup mission on its official Facebook page Wednesday afternoon, telling residents the Hammock Bay and Bay Loop areas “weren’t sprayed last night.” Tuesday evening’s route took trucks through the Four Mile Rd, Steamboat Landing and Kaleidoscope areas — a tight two-hour pass between 5 and 7 PM that left those neighborhoods waiting for their turn.
Tonight’s window is a much longer one. Spraying will begin at 5 PM and conclude at 10:30 PM — five and a half hours, closer to the extended mission the city ran over the same three areas on Oct. 28, when trucks worked until 11:30 PM, than to the quick early-evening passes of recent days. Freeport has held the weekly cadence since launching the rotating spray announcements in late May.
Mosquito activity has stayed elevated since Hurricane Isaias crossed Walton County in late October, with the standing water the storm left behind keeping the pests active — the same backdrop the city cited when it sent crews back out this week. Recovery work continues around Freeport, and FEMA application help remains available at Freeport City Hall.
As with any treatment, the usual precautions apply: close windows, bring pet food and water bowls inside, and stay indoors while the truck works the streets. Residents with questions can contact the city’s main line at (850) 835-2822.
