Trunk or Treat at Freeport Sports Complex Set for October 24
Freeport will hold its annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Freeport Regional Sports Complex, with free hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and s’mores on the menu and a bouncy house on the grounds.
The city announced the Halloween event on its Facebook page this week. Billed as “Night at the Park Trunk or Treat,” the evening pairs the city’s candy-and-costumes tradition with a park-party atmosphere, and trunk hosts can start setting up their decorated vehicles at 4 p.m.
The format is the one Freeport families know well: local groups and residents decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out candy in one central spot, no dark-neighborhood door-knocking required. For a look at how the tradition works — and the creativity past years have brought out in trunk decorators — see our guide to the city’s Halloween tradition.
The venue this year is a park still in storm-recovery mode. The city announced Tuesday that the Regional Sports Complex at 563 Hammock Trail E. was closed because of fallen trees and debris left by Hurricane Isaias, and the site has also been serving as one of the county’s water, ice and meal distribution points. The Oct. 24 date now puts a Halloween target on the calendar for a park that has spent the week in cleanup mode.
Costumes are encouraged, and residents with questions about the event can call (850) 333-2893 or (850) 974-4607.
