Keep Walton County Beautiful Beach Cleanup Set for Sept. 19 with Grady Brown Park Site
Volunteers can pitch in on International Coastal Cleanup Day this month at three Walton County locations, including Grady Brown Park in Freeport, on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 to 10 a.m.
Keep Walton County Beautiful, the county’s affiliate of the national Keep America Beautiful network, is organizing the multi-location cleanup in honor of International Coastal Cleanup Day, a global effort that has run for more than 35 years. Volunteers will fan out across the county to remove litter from beaches, waterways, parks, and neighborhoods — and the Freeport site puts the effort squarely in the city’s backyard.
Cleanup locations include Seagrove Regional Beach Access at 3910 E. County Highway 30A, Miramar Beach Regional Beach Access at 2375 Scenic Gulf Drive, and Grady Brown Park at 20940 US Highway 331 South in Freeport. The park sits on the north side of Choctawhatchee Bay at the Clyde B. Wells Bridge, making it the natural staging point for cleanup crews working the bay’s northern shoreline. Volunteers should bring a reusable water bottle and wear comfortable clothing with closed-toe shoes; hats and sunglasses are recommended. Cleanup supplies will be provided.
For Freeport residents, the Grady Brown Park site is more than a convenient meeting spot. The park offers sandy beach along Choctawhatchee Bay, two boat ramps with finger piers, and a kayak launch, so cleanup crews will have plenty of shoreline to work. “By spending just a few hours giving back, you’re helping ensure Walton County remains a place we’re proud to call home,” the organization writes.
Registration is available through the volunteer form on the Keep Walton County Beautiful website, and organizers ask participants to check the event page as Sept. 19 approaches for updates, including any weather-related changes. Questions can be directed to the organization at [email protected].
