Walton County Zoning Board of Adjustments Meets July 23 in Freeport
The Walton County Zoning Board of Adjustments meets Thursday, July 23 at 5:00 PM at the Freeport Board Room to review four variance requests across Districts 4 and 5.
The board’s agenda includes a packed slate of setback variance requests for residential properties. The meeting takes place at the Walton County Board of County Commissioners Freeport Boardroom at 842 State Highway 20 East, the same venue that hosts planning commission and zoning hearings for the county’s northern communities.
Three of the four items on the agenda are scheduled for final approval votes. The Kimball Variance (VAR26-000030) seeks to reduce the rear setback from 25 feet to 14.4 feet and eliminate the east side setback entirely for a retaining wall on a 0.258-acre residential parcel at 250 Ricker Avenue in District 5. The Doty Variance (VAR26-000031) requests a rear setback reduction from 15 feet to 5.46 feet on a 0.606-acre property at 66 Cross Creek Road in District 4. The Commodore’s Retreat Owners’ Association Variance (VAR26-000032) asks for side and front setback reductions for a replacement pool at 561 Eastern Lake Road in District 5.
The first agenda item, the Mason Variance (VAR26-000019), has been withdrawn by the applicant. Clark Partington filed the request on behalf of Cara and Troy Mason to reduce the rear setback by 5 feet on a 0.292-acre property at 182 Buck Road in District 4, but the item will be removed from the agenda.
The Zoning Board of Adjustments operates under Walton County’s Land Development Code to hear appeals and grant variances where strict application of zoning standards would create undue hardship for property owners. The board consists of seven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for overlapping three-year terms. Meetings are open to the public, and property owners whose requests are on the agenda are encouraged to attend to present their cases.
