Two Alabama Teens Arrested on US 331 After Gun Waving Report
Two Alabama teenagers are facing multiple felony charges after a Walton County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 98 and County Highway 293 in Walton County on Monday afternoon.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a motorist around 2 p.m. on Monday reporting that the passenger of an older-model gray Nissan Sentra with an Alabama license plate was waving a gun outside the car window near Highway 98 in Inlet Beach. A deputy pulled the vehicle over as it turned northbound onto US 331 South.
Jonathan Ean Smith, 17, of Greenville, Alabama, and Gabriel Josiah Crysell, 16, of Honoraville, Alabama, were detained during the stop. Deputies found a loaded .40-caliber Glock handgun in Crysell’s waistband, and a search of the vehicle turned up a second loaded .40-caliber Glock in a black backpack along with alcohol, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Authorities also recovered $3,900 in cash from the vehicle.
Smith was charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 18, possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Crysell faces charges of removing a serial number from a firearm, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both teens were taken to the Walton County Jail for booking and will be transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.
