Freeport Opens Team Registration for New Adult Kickball League

Registration opened Wednesday, October 7 for Freeport’s new adult kickball league, the city announced. Team captains can now sign their squads up for the fall season.

The City of Freeport’s Parks and Recreation Department is putting out the call for team captains: register your team, pick a name, and get ready for a fall season at the Freeport Regional Sports Complex. The league is the newest addition to the city’s adult recreation lineup, joining the long-running co-ed softball program that already calls the 60-acre complex home.

The idea earned city council backing in September, when parks staff received the green light to move forward with the league after presenting it at the September 8 regular council meeting. At the time, officials said pricing and game schedules would return for council approval — and now registration is underway, with the city promising “awesome fall fun” for participants.

Response from residents has been swift. Within hours of the announcement, players were already asking whether small groups of friends could be placed together on the same team — a sign of the demand the parks department had hoped for when it first floated the concept. The league gives Freeport adults a low-key, social way to stay active without the commitment of a competitive league, and it reinforces the city’s push to keep the sports complex busy through the fall months.

The Freeport Regional Sports Complex, accessible via Great Hammock Bend or Bay Loop Road, hosts soccer, softball, and shuffleboard among its offerings, and the city’s parks department has made expanding adult recreation a priority. Team captains interested in registering can watch the City of Freeport’s Facebook page for registration details, or contact City Hall at (850) 835-2822 for more information.
