Freeport Municipal Pool Ends Season After Labor Day
The Freeport Municipal Pool closes for the season after Labor Day, and the city is giving swimmers one last weekend — hot dogs included.
The City of Freeport announced Friday that the pool’s last days to swim are Saturday, Sept. 5, Sunday, Sept. 6, and Labor Day itself, Monday, Sept. 7. Hours run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, shift to noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, then return to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the holiday finale. After Monday, the pool goes dark until next summer.
“So come grab a hot dog and get your last swim in while you can,” the city’s Facebook post urged — a suitably informal send-off for the town’s public swim spot.
The season is closing the way it opened. The pool kicked off the summer May 23 with a shortened 9 a.m. to noon session while lifeguards finished training, then settled into its regular schedule through the hottest stretch of a Panhandle summer. For a city that has grown quickly along the Highway 331 corridor, the seasonal pool beside City Hall has again carried a full slate of lap swimming, swim lessons and water aerobics.
Labor Day marks the traditional end of the municipal swim season, and Freeport is holding to it. Anyone planning a final lap should get there before 5 p.m. Monday.
