Freeport Mosquito Control Spraying July 22: Wind Delays Start Time

Freeport Mosquito Control will be spraying tonight, July 22, with a delayed start around 8 PM as high winds are expected to push operations later into the evening.

The city announced the spray schedule on its official Facebook page, citing high mosquito trap counts as the reason for tonight’s treatment. Crews typically focus on specific neighborhoods across the city, though the full route list was not available at the time of publication.

The wind delay is notable — most spray operations begin earlier in the evening, but the city noted that “significant winds” would require waiting until conditions calm down. Spraying in high winds reduces effectiveness because the mist disperses before reaching target areas.

This is at least the third mosquito control operation in Freeport this month, following treatments on July 10 and earlier in the season. The city’s mosquito control program operates on an as-needed basis, responding to elevated trap counts and resident complaints.

Residents are advised to keep windows closed, bring in pet food and water bowls, and stay indoors during spraying operations. The city posts spray announcements on its Facebook page ahead of each treatment.
