Flood Watch Issued for Freeport Area Through Tuesday Night
A Flood Watch is in effect for Freeport through late tonight, with 2–3 inches of rain likely and localized totals up to 8 inches possible.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Flood Watch for Freeport and much of the surrounding region, effective through late tonight.
What to Expect
Widespread rainfall of 2 to 3 inches is likely across the watch area, with localized amounts of 6 to 8 inches possible in areas where heavier storms repeatedly track over the same locations.
Soils across the region are already saturated from recent heavy rainfall, meaning even moderate additional rain could quickly lead to flooding. The risk for flash flooding is elevated as a result.
Affected Areas
The Flood Watch covers portions of:
- Southeast Alabama
- Southwest Georgia
- The Florida Panhandle
- The far western Florida Big Bend
Freeport is specifically included in the watch area.
Potential Impacts
- Flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams
- Low-lying and flood-prone areas may become inundated
- Poor drainage and urban flooding, especially in developed areas with limited runoff capacity
Residents in flood-prone areas should be prepared to take action if flooding develops. Avoid driving through flooded roadways — turn around, don’t drown.
