Walton County Seeks Volunteers for Advisory Boards and Committees
Walton County is accepting applications from residents who want to serve on the county’s volunteer advisory boards and committees, with the 30-day application window opening October 1 and appointments to be made at the first Board of County Commissioners meeting in December.
The county announced the recruitment drive Thursday, inviting community members to share their knowledge and experience while helping shape the future of Walton County. Applications will be accepted for 30 days from October 1, meaning residents have through October 31 to submit their names for consideration.
Serving on a county board is a hands-on way to participate in local government. Advisory boards and committees review issues that come before the Board of County Commissioners and offer recommendations on matters ranging from planning and development to parks and public services. The Board of County Commissioners makes the final appointments at its first meeting in December.
For Freeport residents, the recruitment is a direct opportunity to weigh in on county decisions that affect the area. District 1 Commissioner Dan Curry, whose district includes Freeport and whose district office sits at 902 FL-20 in Freeport, is one of five commissioners who rely on advisory board input when setting county policy.
Interested residents can view the available positions and submit an application through the county’s online application portal. Once submitted, applicants receive a tracking number they can use to check the status of their request. The county also posted a video overview of the volunteer program on its website.
Residents who miss the October window can still monitor the county’s news page for future recruitment cycles. Information about county boards and committees is available through the Walton County website.
