City of Freeport Offices Closed October 12 for Indigenous Peoples Day
City of Freeport offices will close Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day, with all city administrative offices reopening at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13.
The one-day closure, announced Thursday on the city’s Facebook page, affects in-person business at City Hall, located at 112 Highway 20 West in Freeport. Residents who need to conduct time-sensitive city business — utility payments, building permits, business registrations, or records requests — should plan around the shutdown or use the city’s online payment options through the City of Freeport website. City Hall’s regular counter hours resume Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
The closure falls on the Monday that many federal and state agencies observe as Columbus Day.
For Freeport residents with county business, the Walton County Tax Collector’s office in the Freeport Business Park at 842 State Highway 20 East, Suite 122, will also be closed October 12, which the office lists as a Columbus Day in-service training day. The Tax Collector’s Freeport location typically operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Walton County’s Board of County Commissioners, by contrast, has no October 12 holiday on its approved 2026 schedule — the county’s next administrative closure after the July Fourth observance is Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11. County offices in DeFuniak Springs and the South Walton Annex follow that schedule.
