Walton County Design Review Board to Meet September 3 at South Walton Annex
The Walton County Design Review Board will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the South Walton Annex Boardroom, 31 Coastal Centre Boulevard, Santa Rosa Beach — just off U.S. Highway 331 in South Walton.
The Design Review Board consists of seven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and was established at the BCC’s August 25, 1997 Regular Workshop. The board reviews all development applications for design review as required by Walton County’s Land Development Code, Chapter 6, which governs the county’s designated scenic corridors. In addition to evaluating design applications recommended by the Planning Director and Scenic Corridor Review Specialist, the board acts on requests for deviations from scenic corridor standards and approves alternative building technologies and new building materials.
The board meets monthly at the South Walton Annex Boardroom, located at the South Walton Courthouse Annex on Coastal Centre Boulevard just off U.S. Highway 331 in Santa Rosa Beach. The venue serves as a regular meeting site for multiple Walton County boards and commissions, giving residents in the southern half of the county easier access to local government proceedings without traveling to DeFuniak Springs.
Recent Design Review Board agendas have included reviews of commercial development proposals along US Highway 98, hotel projects in South Walton, and residential subdivisions throughout the county. The board’s recommendations feed into Walton County’s broader development approval pipeline, which includes the Planning Commission, Technical Review Committee, Zoning Board of Adjustments, and ultimately the Board of County Commissioners.
