Walton County Announces July 4 Holiday Closures and Solid Waste Schedule

Walton County offices will close Thursday, July 2, through Monday, July 6, in observance of Independence Day, with all county administrative buildings resuming normal operations Tuesday, July 7.

The extended closure covers the county’s main administration building at 76 N 6th Street in DeFuniak Springs as well as the South Walton Courthouse Annex on Coastal Centre Boulevard. The four-day shutdown reflects the holiday falling on a Saturday, with Friday serving as the federal observance day and Monday as the standard recuperation period for county employees.

Walton County Solid Waste has also released modified holiday hours for the collection schedule. The Walton County Central Landfill, located at 1118 Institution Road in DeFuniak Springs, will be closed to the public on Independence Day. Waste Management, the county’s contracted hauler, operates on a regular schedule for all holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day — meaning residential curbside collection will continue as normal during the July 4 weekend.

For Freeport residents, household waste collection sites include the facility behind the Freeport Annex with entrance off Blue Ridge Parkway. The South Walton drop-off site is located at 970 S County Highway 83 in Santa Rosa Beach. Residents who normally use these sites should verify hours before heading out, as holiday schedules may affect staffing.

If a regular collection day for household, yard, or bulk waste falls on a holiday, Waste Management collects on the next regularly scheduled day in Area A and the next business day in Area B. Residents can confirm their collection area and schedule through the Walton County Solid Waste Division webpage or by calling WM customer service at (850) 389-6121.

Walton County libraries will also be closed Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day. Regular library hours resume Monday, July 6.
