Planning Commission's October Meeting Moves to October 15 at the Freeport Board Room

Walton County has canceled its October 8 Planning Commission meeting and rescheduled the session for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Freeport Board Room at 842 State Highway 20 East.

The county’s official meeting portal now lists the October 8 agenda as canceled, with the full slate moved to the new date a week later. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on major development applications and amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code under Chapter 163 of the Florida Statutes. The commission convenes at the Freeport Board Room, which also houses the county’s Planning and Development Services office at 842 State Highway 20 East, Suite 110.

Both legislative items from the original agenda carry over unchanged. The item with the most direct Freeport stake is the Southeastern Sign Company request — a small-scale future land use amendment with rezoning on a 0.15-acre tract at 18374 South US Highway 331, fronting US 331 South and Sweetwater Lane. The application, submitted by Jenkins Engineering, would change the parcel from Rural Residential to Commercial future land use and from Rural Village to General Commercial zoning to support a permanent outdoor advertising sign — a digital billboard on the corridor that connects Freeport to the county’s south side. The property sits in Commission District 1, represented by Dan Curry, whose district office is on FL-20 East in Freeport.

The second item is the Daughettes small-scale amendment with rezoning and Land Use Restriction Agreement — a Seaside Community Development Corp. request covering 1.2 acres at Morrison Avenue and County Highway 283 North — which is slated for continuance to the November 12, 2026, Planning Commission meeting. The item has already traveled through several agendas, carried over from September 10, and the continuance memo attached to the current agenda notes staff recommended the extension to review the draft land use restriction agreement.

The rescheduled meeting takes the place of a session that had been set for the same venue this week. Residents who planned to attend in person or speak on either application can do so on October 15 at the Freeport Board Room, or join remotely through a Zoom registration link posted with the agenda on the Walton County CivicWeb portal. Meeting minutes and recorded proceedings are available through CivicWeb for those unable to attend.
