Murder Suspect Isabelle Johnson Ordered Held Without Bond at First Walton County Appearance
Murder suspect Isabelle Johnson made her first appearance in a Walton County courtroom Saturday morning, where a judge ordered her held without bond following her extradition from Jackson County.
Johnson, 38, went before Judge Kevin Wells at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 15, one day after being booked into the Walton County Jail. The ruling means she will remain in custody for the foreseeable future as the case against her proceeds through the judicial system. Johnson was extradited Friday morning after being captured Thursday afternoon in Cottondale by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, ending a 45-day manhunt that spanned Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
The no-bond order marks the latest step in a case that began June 25, when investigators discovered human remains buried in a shallow grave on a property off Sunset Lane in Freeport. The remains were later identified as 43-year-old Jason Christopher Coulthart, a Niceville resident who had been reported missing May 24. Johnson was charged with an open count of murder in connection with his death.
Five people have already been charged with accessory after the fact to a capital felony for helping Johnson evade law enforcement during her time on the run. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has indicated the investigation remains active and additional arrests of anyone who assisted Johnson are possible.
