Freeport City Council Set for Budget Workshop July 14

Freeport City Council Set for Budget Workshop July 14

The Freeport City Council will convene Tuesday, July 14 for a regular council meeting and a budget workshop as the city begins shaping its spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year.

The regular council meeting is scheduled for 9:00 am, followed by the budget workshop at 5:00 pm. Both sessions will be held at Freeport City Hall. The city has posted a budget agenda packet and a full agenda for public review on its website, allowing residents to review the materials before the meeting.

The July 14 budget workshop comes at a critical time for Walton County municipalities. The Walton County Board of County Commissioners has been holding its own series of budget workshops throughout July at the Freeport Commons Boardroom, grappling with potential revenue shortfalls tied to pending state property tax legislation. County officials have projected possible cuts exceeding $7 million if the proposed property tax amendment passes, which could affect services that flow down to Freeport residents.

Freeport’s budget process follows a familiar pattern from recent years. In 2025, the city held multiple budget workshops and public hearings between July and September, culminating in the adoption of the fiscal year budget. The July 14 workshop represents the first formal step in the FY 2027 budget cycle, giving council members and the public an opportunity to review preliminary revenue projections, departmental requests, and capital improvement plans.

Residents who cannot attend the meeting in person can access agendas, minutes, and audio recordings through the City Council Agendas and Minutes page on the city’s website. For questions about agendas or minutes, City Clerk Rebecca McLendon can be reached at (850) 835-2822 ext. 219.
